A Message from Overall Chairman

A Message from Overall Chairman 2016-11-09T14:08:58+00:00

As a student at the University of Kentucky, I am continually amazed at the ongoing impact DanceBlue has on our campus. Each year, over 1000 students are able to put aside commitments, work, and personal time in order to raise awareness and funds to benefit a cause near to the hearts of many across the country.  At the culmination of a year of fundraising, we stand for 24 hours in support of children across Kentucky who are fighting tough battles with cancer.  We stand to remember those who have come before us and recognize their memory.  And when the 24 hours have passed, we celebrate the philanthropic efforts of students across campus who have taken a stand against cancer.  As soon as it ends, DanceBlue begins again, reaching further into the hearts of students at UK, and encouraging them to become further involved in supporting the incredible heroes we have in our clinic.

As we approach DanceBlue 2017, I think it is important to keep the spirit of these children at the heart of our efforts.  Every day they wake up to face an incredible battle, and throughout it all, they maintain an optimism that is unmatched.  Their happiness and courage is the spirit that drives DanceBlue.  They continue to prove there is hope, and inspire our students to stand in support of the belief that one-day cancer will be defeated.

Each year, DanceBlue is able to provide vital support to these families who are supported within the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic. This would be impossible without the time volunteered by students.  Whether it is running the 5K, going to a restaurant night, or serving on committee, each student is able to play a fundamental part in DanceBlue.  Each person who gets involved with DanceBlue is able to create positive change within our community.  The support they provide to children who are fighting for their lives cannot be quantified.

As the Overall Chair of DanceBlue 2017, I want to encourage you to take the first step in becoming part of something bigger than yourself. Come visit our committee on campus and learn about how you can get involved in DanceBlue.  From there you can decide which opportunity is the best fit for you.  With your help, we can continue to serve our clinic, and further unite our campus behind this cause.

For the Kids,

Richie Simpson
